Chess superstar Magnus Carlsen has claimed the World Blitz Championship title, marking his record ninth World Blitz title. Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi delivered a stellar performance to win the bronze medal, becoming the second Indian male player to achieve this feat after Viswanathan Anand.

At the World Blitz Championship held in Doha, Magnus Carlsen made history by winning the title for a record ninth time amid tough competition. Despite some setbacks in the early rounds, the world No. 1 Carlsen proved his supremacy by defeating Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the title match.

Magnus Carlsen defeated the Grandmaster from Uzbekistan in the final. In the Doha tournament final, he beat Uzbekistan’s Grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov 2.5–1.5. Carlsen had also won the gold medal in the World Rapid Championship last week. Thus, in Doha, he claimed both the Rapid and Blitz titles.

After winning the title, Carlsen said, ‘This tournament was extremely challenging for me. The conditions were against me in the early rounds, but I enjoyed the game in the knockout stages, and luck was also on my side.’

Four games were played in the final match. After three games, the score was tied at 1.5–1.5. In the fourth game, Carlsen rejected a draw offer and secured a decisive victory to claim the title.

Arjun Erigaisi Wins the Bronze Medal

Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi delivered a stellar performance to win the bronze medal. The 22-year-old Erigaisi topped the Swiss League with 15 points in 19 rounds. However, he lost 0.5–2.5 to Abdusattorov in the semifinals.

Despite this, Arjun Erigaisi became the second Indian male player to achieve this feat after Viswanathan Anand. Earlier, he had also won the bronze medal in the World Rapid Championship.
