Raymond Group Founder Vijaypat Singhania Passes Away at 87

Former MD and Chairman of Raymond Group, Vijaypat Singhania, passed away in Mumbai on Saturday evening at the age of 87. According to the family, he passed away peacefully. His son, Gautam Singhania, shared this information on the social media platform X.

He wrote, “With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania.” He described his father as a visionary leader, philanthropist, and inspiring personality whose legacy will continue to guide future generations.

The Last Rites Will be Held on Sunday at 3 PM

The company’s spokesperson stated that his last rites will be performed on Sunday, March 29, at 3 PM at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai. Earlier, a condolence gathering will be held at 1:30 PM at the Haveli on L.D. Ruia Road, where family members and close associates will be present.

Who Was Vijaypat Singhania?

Vijaypat Singhania was born in 1938 and was counted among the country’s leading industrialists. He led the Raymond Group from 1980 to 2000, taking the company to new heights in the textile industry. He was not just a businessman but also a passionate aviator.

He set a world record for reaching the highest altitude in a hot air balloon. In 1988, he completed a 23 day microlight flight from London to Delhi, setting another record.

For his contributions, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 2006. Additionally, he received the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2001. The Indian Air Force appointed him as an Honorary Air Commodore in 1994, and in 2006, he also served as the Sheriff of Mumbai.

There Was a Dispute With the Son in 2015

In 2015, he transferred his 37% stake in the Raymond Group to his son Gautam, which led to disputes within the family. In recent years, several statements and incidents regarding the father-son relationship were in the spotlight. However, his contributions and personality will always be remembered with respect.
