Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated India’s strong support for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during his talks with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He stressed that India stands shoulder to shoulder with Abu Dhabi amid growing regional instability in West Asia.
During the meeting, PM Modi described the UAE as his second home and thanked the UAE for the warm welcome given to him. He said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude for this warm welcome. And as you said, I have come to my second home.” He further said that the escort provided by UAE Air Force aircraft during his arrival was a matter of pride for the people of India.
Targeting UAE is Not Right: PM Modi
The Prime Minister also thanked the UAE leadership for their condolences on the recent natural disaster in Uttar Pradesh and said he looked forward to meeting the UAE President in person. He added, “We strongly condemn the attacks on the UAE. The manner in which the UAE has been targeted is unacceptable in any way.”
Praising the UAE leadership for handling the situation, PM Modi said, “In these difficult circumstances, the restraint, courage and wisdom you have displayed is highly commendable.” He also welcomed the UAE-led efforts to maintain national unity, security and territorial integrity.
Treated the People of India like Family During Difficult Times
PM Modi expressed gratitude to the UAE government and the royal family for supporting the Indian community living in the Gulf country during difficult times.
He said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the UAE Government and especially the Royal Family for showing concern and care towards the Indian community living in the UAE during these difficult times, and for treating them like members of their own family.”
Referring to the broader regional situation, PM Modi said the impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia is being felt globally, and reiterated India’s support for diplomacy and dialogue.
Keeping the Strait of Hormuz Open is India’s Priority
He stressed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz free, open, and secure remains India’s top priority. He said, “It is imperative to adhere to international law in this regard.”
The Prime Minister also emphasized the growing importance of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He said, “In the current circumstances, the importance of the India-UAE Strategic Partnership has increased manifold.”
PM Modi pointed out that during the UAE President’s visit to India in January, the two countries had agreed to qualitatively enhance bilateral cooperation, and noted that tremendous progress has been achieved in all areas in a short span of time.
“In the times to come, we will continue to move forward together in every field,” PM Modi said, and reiterated India’s readiness to cooperate with the UAE in its efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
