India recently concluded an FTA with the EU, showcasing its global capabilities. Following this, the US has also shown interest, and a trade deal with America could soon be signed.
India may receive more good news soon. Following the ‘Mother of All Deals’ with the EU, a proposed trade agreement between India and the US could be finalized. Sources say both countries are preparing to seal the deal, though no official statement has been made yet. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is expected to visit the US next week to attend a key minerals-related meeting, scheduled for February 4 in Washington, hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Since President Trump’s tariffs, trade relations between India and the US have been strained. Despite multiple efforts, a trade gap persisted. Trump’s policies caused trade bottlenecks not only for India but for several other countries as well.
On Republic Day, India signed a historic FTA with the EU, sending ripples across the world, including the US. European leaders themselves hailed it as the ‘Mother of All Deals’.
A minerals-related meeting is scheduled in Washington on February 4, hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. India’s Foreign Minister may attend. The talks could yield a positive deal on trade, tariffs, and the months-long tension over India’s oil imports from Russia.
After India’s FTA with the EU, there is speculation that the deal was in response to US tariff policies, though no official statement has been made.
