On the morning of 28 January, Wednesday, the country received news that left everyone deeply shaken. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane accident. The incident occurred at the Baramati airstrip when his chartered aircraft was attempting to land. In the accident, the aircraft was completely destroyed by fire, and all six people on board lost their lives.
According to information, Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati. He was scheduled to attend an event in Baramati. His aircraft was supposed to land at the Baramati airstrip in the morning, but shortly before landing, the plane developed a technical malfunction.
The Pilot had Sent an Emergency Message
According to sources, when the pilot of the aircraft realized there was a technical malfunction, he immediately sent a Mayday signal to Air Traffic Control (ATC). This call indicates that the aircraft is facing a serious problem and needs immediate assistance. Following this, ATC gave the aircraft priority and attempted to facilitate a safe landing. It is being reported that the aircraft tried to land for the first time but was unsuccessful. During the second attempt, as the aircraft was descending, it lost balance and crashed near the runway.
A Fire Broke Out After the Crash
According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft caught fire the moment it hit the ground. Within seconds, the plane was engulfed in flames, which were visible from a distance. Rescue teams reached the spot immediately after the accident, but due to the intense fire, no one could be saved.
Apart from Ajit Pawar, the aircraft was carrying his security personnel, an air hostess, and the pilot and co-pilot. All of them died on the spot. After the accident, aviation investigation agencies became active. A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) reached the site and is conducting the investigation. The probe is trying to determine the cause of the technical failure and whether weather conditions or the state of the runway also contributed to the accident.
