The opposition has been continuously attacking the central government over the India US trade deal. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi not only strongly raised this issue in Parliament but has now also asked the government five questions regarding the deal. Rahul said, “In the name of the US trade deal, we are witnessing a betrayal of India’s farmers.”
Rahul Gandhi Questions PM Modi on Farmers Issues, Warns of Foreign Influence on Agriculture
On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi posted on the social media platform X, asking Prime Minister Modi five questions and also criticizing the government. Rahul Gandhi said that farmers deserve clarification on these issues. He added that this is not just about today it is also about the future. “Are we allowing another country to gain a long term hold over India’s agricultural sector?” he asked.
- Rahul questioned, “What does importing DDG actually mean? Does it mean that Indian livestock will be fed fodder made from genetically modified (GM) American corn? Wouldn’t that effectively make our dairy products dependent on the US agricultural industry?”
- “If we allow the import of genetically modified soybean oil, what will happen to our soybean farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and across the country? How will they withstand yet another blow to prices?”
- He also questioned, “When you mention ‘additional products,’ what all does that include? Is this a sign of pressure to gradually open up pulses and other crops to US imports over time?”
- Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Modi, “What does removing non-tariff barriers mean? In the future, will India face pressure to relax its stance on GM crops, weaken procurement, or reduce MSP and bonuses?”
- The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha asked, “Once this door is opened, how will we prevent it from opening further every year? Will there be any safeguards, or will more and more crops gradually be put on the table in each deal?”
Rahul Had also Raised these Questions in Parliament
Rahul Gandhi had also raised questions in Parliament regarding the trade deal between India and the United States. He alleged that in this trade deal, the government has sold off the hard work and sweat of the farmers. He claimed this was done because the government is under pressure. He also accused the government of preventing him from speaking in Parliament.
