On one hand, U.S. President Donald Trump is claiming to be pursuing an agreement with Iran, while on the other hand, his military is also carrying out attacks on Tehran. In the latest development, the United States has claimed that it struck Iranian drone command sites over the weekend.
The United States said on Sunday that it carried out self-defense strikes over the weekend against Iranian radar and drone control sites located on the islands of Goruk and Qeshm. The U.S. described the attacks as a response to Tehran’s aggressive actions.
Iran claimed on Sunday that it had shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone. Following this claim, the United States carried out retaliatory action against Iran. The U.S. attacked Iranian radar installations and drone command centers. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the operation was conducted in self-defense. The strikes targeted facilities located on the islands of Goruk and Qeshm.
Drone, Air Defense Systems, and Ground Control Systems Destroyed
Tensions between the United States and Iran appear to be heading toward a dangerous escalation once again. After Iran allegedly shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone, the United States launched a direct retaliatory strike. The U.S. military has claimed that it targeted Iran’s radar systems and drone command-and-control centers.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X on Monday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that strikes were carried out over the weekend against military facilities located on the Iranian islands of Goruk and Qeshm. CENTCOM stated, ‘This action was taken in self-defense in response to the shooting down of a U.S. MQ-1 drone.
Iran Also Carried Out a Retaliatory Action
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that its Aerospace Force had targeted the airbase which, according to it, was used in a U.S. attack on a telecom tower on Sirik Island. However, it did not provide any information about the location of that airbase.
This events comes at a time when talks are underway between the United States and Iran regarding a potential agreement, but military clashes on the ground continue unabated. On Sunday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone flying over its territorial waters using an air defense missile. Iran said the drone had entered a sensitive area. The United States has now used the same incident as the basis for its retaliatory action.
An Attack also Took Place Last Week
Last week too, there were retaliatory strikes between the two countries. At that time, the U.S. military targeted an Iranian drone operation near the Strait of Hormuz, carrying out strikes. This information was provided by an official in Washington. After that, Iran targeted a U.S. airbase.
Which Locations Were Targeted?
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out at two key locations: first, a radar site in Goruk; and second, a drone command-and-control center on Qeshm Island. The U.S. military says these facilities were being used for drone operations and surveillance activities.
Tensions are Increasing Amid a Ceasefire
Interestingly, talks are ongoing between the United States and Iran to extend the ceasefire and reach a broader agreement. President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that Iran will not be allowed to move toward developing nuclear weapons. However, on the other hand, developments such as the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. naval blockade, drone strikes, and retaliatory actions indicate that mistrust between the two countries still persists.
