BCCI Secretary has Broken his Silence on Gautam Gambhir

A few days ago, reports surfaced that the BCCI wanted to remove Gautam Gambhir from the Test format. As soon as this news went viral, the BCCI itself had to step in to stop the rumors. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, in a conversation with India Today, said that

“No discussions of any kind have taken place regarding Gautam Gambhir. Similarly, no contact has been made with any other coach. These are just rumors and nothing else.”

Devajit Saikia also clarified that Gautam Gambhir will complete his tenure, which lasts until the 2027 World Cup. The BCCI does not intend to make any changes to his coaching contract before that, and he will continue to remain India’s coach.

India’s Situation in Test Cricket is Dire

Since Gautam Gambhir became India’s coach, the team’s performance in Test cricket has declined significantly. Under Gambhir’s coaching, three veteran players of Team India have announced their retirement. During the Australia tour, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement, followed by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who also bid farewell to Test cricket.

Under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching, India suffered a home series defeat against New Zealand in a 3 match series, and more recently, lost a 2 match home series against South Africa. Earlier, India faced defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia for the first time in 10 years.
